Candle Care

Store your soy candles in a cool dry place as soy can soften in temperatures over 25 degrees. Avoid direct sunlight.

Remember, care should always be taken when burning soy candles. Don’t leave them unattended. Keep them out of reach of children and pets. Always position candles on a flat and heat resistant surface.

The recommended burn time for soy candles is no more than 4 hours at a time.

Your first burn:
The first burn is important. You should burn it for number of hours or until a full soy wax pool has formed. By doing this you will get a long even burn without creating tunnelling. Once this has happened you are able to blow out the candle if desired. When burning candles from “The Crystal Collection”, please remove the crystals prior to burning.

Ensuring even burning:
When more wax can melt than the flame can burn, this makes the wick black. This is called mushrooming and occurs with 100% cotton wicks or wooden wicks. Blow out your candles, trim your wick and light it again for an even and efficient burn. It is good practise to regularly trim your candle wick after each burn. Keeping your wick between 6-10mm will ensure and even burn and will prevent your candle from smoking. When burning candles from “The Crystal Collection”, please remove the crystals prior to burning.

Finishing your candle:
When you’re burning your candle, the glass of the jar can become very hot. To prevent any safety issues, burn your candle to about 2cms from the bottom of the jar and remember to place it on a heat proof surface.

How to clean out and up-cycling your jar:
When you have finished your candle, pour some hot water into the jar, and allow the wax to float to the surface. Once it has cooled, pop out the wax that is floating at the top. Repeat these steps until the wax is removed on the bottom. You can push the remaining wick at the bottom of the candle to remove it and use warm soapy water and a sponge to clean the rest of the jar.

All our jars are made from high quality heat proof glass. Although these jars are of the highest quality, it is not recommended to reuse them as candle jars. We recommend up-cycling them as stationary jars, mini pot plants, coin or jewellery holders or makeup brush holders.
